Have you ever stopped to ask yourself: What do I believe about money?<\/em>
\nNot just what you think consciously \u2014 but what your story<\/em> is underneath it all.<\/p>\n

Catherine Morgan describes your Money Narrative<\/strong> as \u201cthe story your brain believes.\u201d And whether we realise it or not, every one of us carries one.<\/p>\n

These stories \u2014 shaped by our childhood, culture, family, and life experiences \u2014 influence our money mindset<\/strong>, our emotional relationship with money, and how we make financial decisions. They affect everything from how we spend and save, to how comfortable we feel earning, receiving, and talking about money.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to work hard…\u201d<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Sound familiar? It\u2019s a message so many of us were brought up with.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to work hard if you want a nice car.\u201d
\n\u201cYou have to work hard if you want a big house.\u201d
\n\u201cYou have to work hard if you want success.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s nothing wrong with valuing hard work. But what happens when life challenges that belief?<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s say you\u2019ve built a well-paid career doing something you genuinely enjoy. Maybe it doesn\u2019t feel like hard work<\/em> in the traditional sense. Does that make it less<\/em> valuable?<\/p>\n

And more importantly \u2014 how does that make you feel<\/em>?<\/p>\n

Guilt, Shame and the Hidden Impact of Money Stories<\/strong><\/h4>\n

These unspoken money beliefs can creep into all sorts of places:<\/p>\n

You feel guilty<\/em> for earning more than your siblings, even if you don\u2019t feel like you \u201cwork harder\u201d.<\/p>\n

You downplay<\/em> your Caribbean holiday so you don\u2019t come across as braggy.<\/p>\n

You always pick up the bill at family dinners \u2014 not just out of generosity, but maybe to ease the guilt<\/em> of being in a stronger financial position.<\/p>\n

You overcompensate<\/em> at Christmas with lavish gifts, wanting to share the wealth<\/em> so you don\u2019t have to feel bad<\/em> for having it.<\/p>\n

You avoid<\/em> financial conversations or checking in with your advisers because you\u2019d rather not face the money stuff.<\/p>\n

These are all examples of money narratives at play<\/strong><\/p>\n

What Is Financial Coaching, and How Can It Help?<\/strong><\/h4>\n
